ALBERT HIRSCHFELD 1903-2003

 

The name AL HIRSCHFELD is synonymous with the American Theatre. He has been celebrated around the world and earned two Tony Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. The delicate lines of his drawings captured the essence of performing artists in a career that spanned the 20th Century. Al Hirschfeld's drawings and caricatures have appeared in books, various publications and is in the Smithsonian Institute, The National Portrait Gallery, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum, The Museum of the City of New York, and many more museums and institutions around the world.
 
On June 23,2003 , in honor of his 100th birthday and his amazing contributions to theatre,the Martin Beck Theatre was re-named the AL HIRSCHFELD THEATRE.
